Lexington’s Josh Teater ranks among leaders at the Bahamas Great Abaco Classic at The Abaco Club as Second Round draws to close

ABACO, The Bahamas Lexington’s Josh Teater fired a second-round 6-under par 66 Monday to rank among the leaders at the Korn Ferry Tour’s Bahamas Great Abaco Classic at the Abaco Club.

Darkness suspended the completion of the event’s second round with Christo Lamprecht and Davis Chatfield leading the 144-player field at 11-under 133. Teater sits two strokes behind at 9-under 133. An eagle on the par-5 14th hole sparked Teater’s second-round showing that included six birdies on the day.

“On fourteen, which was my fifth hole, I hit a 4-iron in there in about two feet for an eagle,” Teater said. “I told my caddie, Chris, that I wanted to hit it up there where our buddy (fellow Kentuckian) Owen Stamper was standing, which was right next to the hole. I was able to do that and tap that in. That kind of got me going.

“At this course, it all depends on the wind and the weather,” Teater said. “I got a really good break with my wave. I got to play quite a few holes this morning when there wasn’t much wind. Then pretty much my whole round this afternoon (was played) with not much wind and some nice tee box locations. (For the rest of the week) I’m going to try to keep hitting it where I’m looking and try to give myself as many putts for birdies as I can.”

Teater gained entry into both of the Korn Ferry Tour’s first two events of the 2025 campaign – The Bahamas Golf Classic at Atlantis Paradise Island and the Bahamas Great Abaco Classic at the Abaco Club – through a sponsor’s exemption from Lexington-based sports marketing firm bdG Sports. He made the cut last week in Nassau before tying for 45th place at 6-under 274.

“These tournaments are huge,” Teater said when referring to his goal to build momentum early for more opportunities on the Korn Ferry Tour. “I’m thankful for getting these sponsor exemptions from bdG Sports and (President/CEO of bdG Sports) Brooks Downing and (Tournament Director) Josh Franklin. It’s kind of setting up my season as a whole. If I don’t make points, I probably won’t get many more tournaments the rest of the year. To be able to make both cuts and hopefully keep firing down this weekend and move up so I can have a schedule the rest of the year. I’m just trying to do my best with each shot.”

The former Morehead State star turned pro in 2001 and has played in more than 200 events on the PGA Tour. Teater has qualified for the PGA three times through the Korn Ferry Tour (2009, 2018, 2023), including a 26th-place finish on the 2023 Korn Ferry Tour. His top finish on the PGA Tour came via a runner-up result at the 2020 Puerto Rico Open.

In all, six players from the Bluegrass State are competing in the Bahamas this week. Lexington’s Caleb VanArragon is tied for 12th at 8-under 136. Georgetown’s Ashton Van Horne (T73rd at 2-under 142), Owensboro’s Matt Atkins (T100th at even par 144), Louisville’s Jared Wolfe (T111st at 1-over 145), Scottsville’s Owen Stamper (T111th at 1-over 145) are currently ranked outside to projected 3-under 141 cut line.

The Golf Channel will air live coverage of the event Tuesday from 2-5 p.m. ET. Live scoring of the event is available on the Korn Ferry Tour website at https://www.pgatour.com/korn-ferry-tour/leaderboard. The four-day event concludes Wednesday.

The top 20 players on the 2025 Korn Ferry Tour Points List will earn 2026 PGA TOUR membership, with the season-long standings finalized after the Korn Ferry Tour Championship presented by United Leasing & Finance in mid-October.

This week’s event features a competitive field including 21 PGA TOUR winners, collecting 38 total wins and 45 Korn Ferry Tour winners, achieving 68 total KFT wins. Six of the last seven Bahamas Great Abaco Classic at the Abaco Club victors have gone on to earn their PGA TOUR Card at the conclusion of the season.
